In this role, Vikas Purohit will lead the company’s strategic relationship with India’s leading brands and agencies to drive revenue growth across key channels in the country.
He will also partner with the media and creative ecosystems to accelerate the adoption of digital tools by India’s largest advertisers and agencies. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced the appointment of Vikas Purohit as Director of Global Business Group in India on January 9. Purohit will oversee the development and implementation of the vertical aimed at the nation’s largest advertisers and agency partners.
This appointment comes just a few months after the November appointment of Sandhya Devanathan as Meta’s India head, succeeding Ajit Mohan, who joined competitor Snap to lead its Asia Pacific business.
Purohit will also partner with the media and creative ecosystems to accelerate the adoption of digital tools by India’s largest advertisers and agencies. He will oversee the company’s key business vertical, agency, and business solutions teams, according to a statement.
He will report to Arun Srinivas, Director and Head of Ads Business for Meta in India, according to the company.
Srinivas stated, “I am thrilled to have Vikas join our team to help shape the role that Meta platforms can play in enabling businesses, supporting India’s economic growth, and building the country’s digital advertising ecosystem.”
Prior to joining Meta, Purohit was the CEO of the Tata Group’s e-commerce division, Tata CLiQ. In October of last year, after six years of service, he resigned. Purohit has over 20 years of experience in senior business, sales, and marketing positions with companies such as Amazon, Reliance Brands Limited, Aditya Birla Group, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Purohit, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, began his career with Aditya Birla Group before joining Tommy Hilfiger and then becoming the head of retail at Reliance Brands Limited. At Amazon, he was instrumental in leading and developing Amazon Fashion.
The India division of Meta reported a net profit of Rs 297 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22, a 132% increase from the Rs 128.2 crore net profit reported in the previous fiscal year. The total income for the fiscal year increased by 56.5% from Rs 1,485.1 crore in the previous fiscal year to Rs 2,324 crore. During the period, the gross advertising revenue increased by 74 percent year-over-year to Rs 16,189 crore.
